LEARN HOW YOUR BLOCK PRINTED GOODS ARE CREATED FROM SCRATCH
Block printing has to be one of my favourite topics of conversation. I love explaining it to people and seeing the realisation in their eyes of how much work, time and effort goes into creating these textiles. Here is a bite size version of the explanation. All this information is in the handmade booklet tag on all Original Source and Supply block printed goods.
Our block printed fabrics are made in collaboration with Block Print House, a family of printers in Bagru, just outside of Jaipur in northern India. Get in touch with them here, they offer great workshops and have always welcomed me like part of the family. Check out this video by Bhava Films showing us the process.
Individual intricate wooden blocks are hand carved by local artisans.
Each textiles is hand printed by dipping the wood block into the dye and repeatedly impressing its pattern on the fabric.
Fabrics are carefully washed by hand and laid to dry in the sun.
Finally, the mud is washed away to reveal the design in the original fabric colour.
Things learnt – all about the process of block printing. The dabu technique especially blew my mind.
